The new school Le Sentier was developed on a site of high environmental value. The existing wooded area constitute an integral part of this site and the building implementation was treated with respect and care on this fragile site. The concept is based on the idea of a tree house and the children living in the forest. The spaces are divided into three themes: :

  • The tree house
  • The clearing
  • The woods

Plantings were selected to match the surrounding forested ecosystems. The playgrounds and equipment use the wooded nature of the site as an inspiration.

Stormwater management is done throughout the site by a network of drainage trenches and a stone amphitheater serving as a temporary retention basin. The water isreused and sent back to the surrounding wetland.

This project constitutes an addition to the education program, based on the natural sciences and the forest and offers outdoor classes with a natural amphitheater.
